Privacy Policy

TraceSpeed is a GPS speedometer and telemetry app providing real-time speed measurement, a head-up display (HUD), compass heading, elevation, speed limit warnings, trip recording and analytics, interactive route map visualization, GPX/CSV export, and a built-in telemetry simulator.

Data Controller

The controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR is the provider identified on the Impressum page. For privacy-related requests, contact support@wolfmajer.com.

Live Location and Telemetry

When GPS mode is active, TraceSpeed accesses precise location and related device-provided telemetry: latitude, longitude, speed, altitude, bearing/heading, accuracy, and timestamp. This information is processed on your device to display live values and calculate current-session metrics. TraceSpeed does not upload GPS coordinates, routes, or trip telemetry to the provider or to an analytics server.

Samples that are not reported as a valid GPS lock are excluded from trip distance calculations and saved tracks. Current-session values are cleared when the app process ends or when you reset the current trip.

Trip Recording and Local Storage

Trip recording is optional and begins only when you tap the recording control. While recording, TraceSpeed stores sampled GPS points (including coordinates, timestamp, speed, heading, altitude, and accuracy) and summary statistics in the app's private local storage on your device. Recorded trips remain there until you delete an individual trip, choose “Delete All”, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.

The provider cannot remotely access, recover, or delete these locally stored trips. Protect access to your device and its backups if your route history is sensitive.

Map Display and OpenStreetMap

When viewing recorded trip details with the route map, TraceSpeed renders your recorded coordinates over map tiles provided by OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge CB4 0WS, United Kingdom). To deliver the relevant map tile images, your device makes standard HTTPS requests to OpenStreetMap tile servers.

In accordance with standard internet communication protocols, the OpenStreetMap Foundation may temporarily process your IP address and device network metadata to transmit the requested image tiles and prevent service abuse. TraceSpeed does not transmit user accounts, advertising identifiers, or your complete recorded GPS route history to the OpenStreetMap servers; only the map tile coordinates (x/y/zoom) needed to display the map are sent. These tile coordinates reveal the geographic area being viewed and can imply approximate location. Tile requests occur when you choose to load the online map; the trip profile, export and deletion remain available without loading it. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License (ODbL). For more details, consult the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.

Export and Sharing

When you explicitly export a trip as GPX or CSV, TraceSpeed creates a file containing the recorded telemetry and opens the operating system's share sheet. No file is sent until you select a destination. The selected recipient or third-party app then processes the exported data under its own privacy terms. Review the destination carefully because route files contain precise location history.

Backups and Temporary Export Files

Android cloud backup and device-to-device migration of private app data are disabled by the app. GPX/CSV files prepared for sharing are stored temporarily in the app cache; the app removes export files older than 24 hours on the next export. Copies saved by a share destination are outside the app and must be deleted there separately.

Simulator Mode

Simulator mode generates synthetic speed, acceleration, heading, altitude, and example coordinates locally in software. It does not read live GPS data while active. If you record and export a simulated trip, the resulting track contains synthetic data.

TraceSpeed stores the last valid version/suspension policy, the selected light/dark/system theme and a versioned flag showing that the first-run legal notice was completed in local app preferences. Google's consent SDK may additionally store advertising consent choices on the device. These values remain until app data is cleared, the app is uninstalled, or the relevant consent record is updated.

Advertising and Google AdMob

Configured releases of TraceSpeed use Google AdMob, provided by Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC, to display banner advertising and optional rewarded video ads. Rewarded videos are shown only after you choose to watch one; completing a video pauses banners locally for 30 minutes. A local expiry timestamp records this reward. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may process and share data such as IP address, advertising or device identifiers, ad interactions, diagnostics, and approximate location inferred from an IP address for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention. TraceSpeed does not provide your recorded GPS tracks to Google.

Where required, TraceSpeed uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) before requesting ads. Depending on your region, device, AdMob message configuration, and choices, ads may be personalised or non-personalised. On iOS, App Tracking Transparency may additionally request permission before an identifier is used for tracking across other companies' apps and websites. Advertising choices are separate from the terms and safety notice. Refusing advertising or tracking consent does not disable the speedometer, simulator, recording, map visualization, or export features.

You can reopen required advertising privacy choices from the app settings. Google's processing is described in Google's Privacy Policy, its information about advertising technologies, and its business data responsibility documentation.

At startup, TraceSpeed requests a small version manifest from tracespeed.wolfmajer.com to determine whether the installed build is still supported. The request includes ordinary network metadata such as your IP address, user agent, requested URL, and timestamp. The last valid update or emergency-disable policy is stored locally. A received block remains effective after restart and while offline. A new valid policy may lift it; installing a sufficiently recent build satisfies a minimum-version block, but does not remove an emergency block. Devices that have never received a block remain usable offline, without an offline expiry. A device that stays offline cannot receive a new remote policy. The check runs at startup, on returning to the app, and periodically while the app is visible.

The legal website and version manifest are delivered through Cloudflare, Inc., acting as a service provider/processor. Cloudflare may process request metadata to deliver pages, provide TLS, and protect against abuse. The provider does not use these request logs to build user profiles. Retention is limited to what is necessary for delivery, security, troubleshooting, and applicable legal obligations under the hosting configuration and Cloudflare's terms.

Google, Cloudflare, the OpenStreetMap Foundation, or their subprocessors may process data outside the European Economic Area. Depending on the recipient and service, safeguards may include an adequacy decision such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Device Permissions

Your Choices and Rights

You can stop GPS access through device settings, use Simulator mode, delete saved trips in the app, clear all app data, choose export destinations, and withdraw available advertising choices in the app or device settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already performed before withdrawal.

Under the GDPR, you may have rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), objection (Art. 21), and withdrawal of consent (Art. 7(3)). Because the provider cannot access locally stored trips, those records are managed directly on your device. For data processed by the provider or its processors, contact support@wolfmajer.com.

Right to Lodge a Complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The Austrian supervisory authority is the Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, Austria, www.dsb.gv.at.

Children

TraceSpeed is not directed at children under 16. A younger person may use the app only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian where required.

Changes to this Policy

Material changes create a new dated legal version in the app and require the first-run legal notice to be completed again.
